A first preview. A clear direction.

The ambient desktop experience has a native foundation. Broader testing will shape how it grows into a dependable product.

0.1.0-preview.1 is an early, unsigned portable preview, not a stable release. Downloads records its public availability and release details.

A real native foundation.

NyKur Edge is a WinUI 3 application built in C# and .NET. The portable preview brings the transparent edge field, glass orb, Windows media sessions, clock glances, and persistent local preferences together in a self-contained folder.

The packaged development path also implements opt-in notifications and Launch with Windows. Both require Windows package identity and are unavailable in the portable preview.

Core state and policy are separated from Windows adapters and presentation. That foundation lets future surfaces use the same integrations without duplicating them.

A foundation, with limits in view.

Development testing has covered packaged launch and shutdown, transparent presentation, desktop input passing through outside the orb, left/right geometry, hover and pinned states, the tray menu, artwork accents, clock glances, and memory-only output analysis.

Live Spotify metadata, artwork, timeline, and playback status have been validated through the Windows media-session API. Core tests cover settings, notification filtering and privacy, interaction state, accent selection, media source labels, events, and display geometry.

The portable preview is a separate distribution path. Its release details distinguish the checks made for that artifact from the packaged development history. Neither establishes comprehensive provider, hardware, or long-session compatibility.

Windows 11 x64 is the target for this preview. The codebase's older Windows API contract is not a claim that this download has been validated on older Windows versions or other processor architectures.

Refining the first experience.

  • Test media controls across more applications and listening setups.
  • Profile long sessions and refine the cost of the continuously moving field.
  • Expand testing across wallpapers, DPI settings, refresh rates, output devices, and display changes.
  • Improve audio response and default-device transitions.
  • Broaden notification testing in packaged builds.
  • Prepare signed installer or store distribution and a future update strategy.

The transparent Win2D surface is the current presentation path. An alternate native composition target remains an opt-in compatibility experiment in development.

The portable preview has no automatic updater. Signing, packaged distribution, and update delivery remain work ahead; no delivery dates are established.

Room to grow, without a deadline.

Deferred directions include display selection and per-monitor profiles, Panel Mode, process-specific audio isolation, provider-specific media features, and notification actions.

These are possible next chapters, not features available today or commitments to a release schedule. The immediate priority is the quality and reliability of the current Edge experience.

A considered desktop companion.

Created by NyKur, the project explores how useful information can live close to a workflow without becoming another large window to manage. The aim is an ambient presence that stays quiet until you approach it.
